[Roles in the plot are all colleagues: RP(me), VR, MT, SV, AD, RK, VG, AA, AK ]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Scene-1~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
RP: Has anyone over here read The Fountainhead?
AD: Yes, I read it online and it is good.
VR: It is OK!
MT: What RP, you haven't read Fountainhead. You missed it. You should read it at the age of 18-20 when you haven't seen the real world and the world still appears to be ideal to you. It's all over, RP.
SV: Yes, I agree. Now, it wouldn't have as much effect as it had on anyone of us who read it around 20.
RP: [ఆ వయసులో నాకు నవలలు చదవటం కంటే ముఖ్యమైన పనులు ఉండేవిలే. కుదిరేది కాదు. ఏదో షిడ్నీ, హెరాల్డ్ లాంటి వాళ్ల నవలలు చదివి పెద్దగా త్రిల్ అవ్వలేదు. అయినా కూడా, మీరు మరీ హైప్ ఇస్తున్నారు. మీకు ఇలాగ కాదు - పుస్తకం చదివాక ఇస్తాను నా టచ్]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Scene-2~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
RP: VR, Do you have the book "The Fountainhead"?
VR: Yes - I think I do. I'll get it.
RP: How about tomorrow?
VR: On a Saturday?
RP: Oops - sorry. On Monday, would be fine.
VR: Sure.
[RP emails, SMS's, IM's, calls her a to give reminders. She gets it and RP reads it.]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Scene-3~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
RP: AD, Could you please review this code for me?
AD: Sure!
[ code review sent ]
AD: We don't use this class like this in our code base!
RP: So what?
AD: Please change it.
RP: When the first man discovered fire, he didn't try to please his brothers or colleagues. He did out of his own passion and interest. He wanted to satisfy himself. It might have given light to a lot of people - but it is his passion that caused the invention. Such is the nature of creativity.
AD: [shocked.] This is not the right way of writing for us.
RP: If this is not the right way or writing for you, then I am not the right engineer for your job. Please excuse me.
AD: [code approved.]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Scene-4~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
VR: MT, Why don't you come to the movie? This is a team outing and you should hang out!
RK: Yes, MT. I can't imagine watching a movie without you.
SV: Dude, we work together. There is no work now either. Why don't you come?
MT: No man, I don't feel like.
Everyone: RP, why don't you tell MT too?
RP: MT, I know this is none of my business. But as an ardent follower of FH, I would like to remind you something. We follow the noblest of the philosophies - the individualism. When we first came to this world, all we had was just this mind. It is our mind that makes us what we are and we should let it be free. We respect others' freedom but at the same time we are not here to please anyone else. Our first and foremost love is self-love. We are going into an orgy of self-sacrifice. Let's not contribute to it. Whatever happens, we will follow our mind and its decisions.
Everyone: [perplexed.]
MT: RP, thanks for the reminder. I'm declaring hereby that I'm NOT going to come for the movie.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Scene-5~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
RP: Hey VR, aren't you supposed to wear ethnic dress for the team dinner?
VR: Yes - I got the dress. But no one else is wearing an ethnic dress. How can I alone wear?
RP: Come on - I keep telling all my friends that there is a colleague of mine who wears cool new dresses. Don't let me down.
VR: But me alone?
RP: For ages, it has been a common struggle. The individual vs collectivism. Collectivism preaches that we should comply to the standards set by minds which don't necessarily think like us. We sacrifice our desires and decisions for the sake of others. Such is the nature of collectivism. A creator needs freedom from any other invention or institution. Such is the nature of creativity. I always thought that you are creative and you would not change your decisions for the sake of others. I'm nothing but disappointed now!
VR: Motivated. Goes to change room and dresses up in the ethnic dress.
[RP vindicated and thanked]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Scene-6~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(@ team dinner with colleagues and their kids in a colleague's house)
RP: Hey - this is cool stuff. This trampoline equipment rocks.
VG: Yes! My kids keep playing all the time on it. It's just like a spring. You jump and jump and jump.
RP: I like it. Do you think it tolerates my weight?
VG: Yes - it does. Occasionally, my kids insist that I get into it.
RP: I want to do it then.
VG: No problem.
Everyone else: RP, that is for kids. Not for us.
RP: I'm here to state my terms. I recognize no obligations towards anyone except to respect their freedom and be fair to them. If you feel that this is not for people of your age, you are welcome to sit out. And I take your suggestion as a bonus - but I'll not let it become an onus to my desire.
[ RP jumps and enjoys himself with the kids a lot jumping and dancing. Slowly, one after the other, the colleagues follow and play on the trampoline pad ]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Scene-7~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
RP: AA, do you want to join me for pool?
AA: Sure! But you playing at office? I can't imagine it.
RP: Yes - I like it. But typically, all the players here are experts and can't make way for me.
AA: I'm not an expert - let's go and play it with AK.
[ AK, RP, AA reach pool table ]
AA: This game is called cut-throat.
RP: I don't want so many rules.
AA: What?
RP: I would like to cut down some of the rules.
AA: But why?
RP: Because I don't like them. I want to play the game like I want to. I don't care about rules put a few hundred years ago.
AA: But that's tradition.
RP: So what? This is my game and I am entitled to play it like I want. I respect your freedom and if you decide that you can't play with me; then please choose it to be so.
AA: OK - let's cut down some rules.
AK: [ not sure what was happening ]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Scene-8~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SV: MT, that dessert is so good - why don't you have it?
MT: but....
RP: MT, we are here to have lunch according to our wish. We welcome others suggestions but...
MT, SV, RK: RP, we agree that you read FH in and out and you are an ardent fan of it. But, please leave it aside. That's for people in an ideal world. Come back to this real world...
అక్కడికేదో చిన్నప్పుడు టీకాలు వేయించుకోకపోతే పెద్దయ్యాక డాక్టర్ జాలి పడినట్లు ఎదవ బిల్డ్ అప్ ఎందుకు?> No - I'm not here to oblige others. I'm here to live like what I am. Thanks for your suggestion. I'm leaving now.
MT: Wait until we finish.
RP: N0 - pleasing you is not a part of my agenda. I got to leave now. I have work to do.
Everyone else: [ feel deceived ]
and it goes on...
Later I told them that it was all for fun only for a couple of days to show how I can be and generate fun out of it.
